On Writing

Writing is hard. Revising is hard. Waiting is hard. Rejection is hard.

Despite all of that there’s nothing I’d rather do (no not even get paid to test new truffles from Godiva…well….). Most writers I’ve met share the same passion that I do, we write because we have to. Not writing feels wrong, painful even. We must need to write because most writers have full-time jobs that are not writing.

In the film Shadowlands, one character says: “We read to know we’re not alone.”

I think the same goes for writing. Storytelling brings people together, creates connections, broadens minds, offers new dreams.

Some books on writing that I’ve found helpful:

The Forest for the Trees: An Editor’s Advice to Writers, Betsy Lerner
Hooked, Les Edgerton
How Not to Write a Novel, Howard Mittlemark and Sandra Newman

The best advice: Read. Read. Read. Write. Write. Write.
